We thought you might find it interesting to know how our studio operates in terms of the hardware we use for development. This week, we are covering our NAS devices which are crucial for secure storage of our source code. We'll be updating this page with additional information about our studio each week.
File Storage
Designing games requires a lot of files, don't you know! With developers in need of shared resources, it's important that files are available in one central location, securely stored and are backed up regularly & efficiently. We currently use an excellent file storage solution from NetGear in the form of multiple ReadyNas Duo NAS devices. This excellent piece of kit connects to your network so that any other devices on the network can load and save files directly to it. As developer files are updated/created, data is automatically duplicated to a drive in the second bay. With HTTP file access, developers can work on files from any location. Typically development takes places in-house, but on occasion this file-access-over-internet has been invaluable. Although we use this hardware setup in such a technical development environment, we think it's accessible to even lone developers who will benefit from this feature-rich NAS device. It's affordable, available diskless (you can choose which drives you use), and could not be simpler to set up. We highly recommend it.
Just to recap, this is what we use:
